Do's & Don'ts

Do's

• Rinse the piecing when you are showering. If soap is needed around the piercing use PH-nutral, hypoallergenic, unscented, liquid soup. Like Sanex, Dove, Sanicura.
• Only use Sterilon and Betadine if there is an infection. If you are sensitive to Iodine use Sterilon.
• Check you piercing daily to see if it's on tight (not too tight)
• Use a waterproof bandages such as Tegaderm, if you have to go to wet environments. 
• Feel free to use products like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and swelling. 
• Change your bedsheets as much as you can.  

Don'ts

• Don't touch or play with your piercing with unwashed hands 
• Don't rotate your piercing while washing or not.
• Don't use any kinds of creme's like Vaseline on the piercing
• Don't use wound-sterilizing products on the wound, like Sterilon and Betadine.
• Don't put bandages over the piercing. The wound needs to have room to breathe and heal.
• Don't go swimming in pools with chloride, bubble baths or natural swim water. (Also don't take steam baths.)
• Avoid other people's bodily fluids, like sweat and saliva.
• If you suspect that you have an infection, do not remove the piercing. This can result in abscess, swelling, bruising and bleeding. Call your piercer immediately.
• Don't use antibacterial/microbial soap. This product can't distinguish between good or bad bacteria.
• Don't use Table salt, epsom salts, tea tree oil, polysporin, neosporin, bacitracin, bactroban, bactine or any other topical solution or ointment on your piercing whatsoever.
• Don't use sun block, sun tan lotion, baby oil or any other skin care product on a new piercing 
• Do not use disinfection soaps like Unicura. 
• Don't use towels on the wound, these are loaded with bacteria.
